About Me

Please allow me to introduced myself. My name is Mariely Sanchez and I am first and foremost a mother to one energetic and handsome boy. I'm also an elementary school teacher and the webmaster/designer of Ms. Sanchez' Class (www.sanchezclass.com) since 2002. My newest online endeavor is becoming the author of this magical blog Pencils and Magic Wands.

I have been teaching since 2001 and I am a graduate of Florida International University and Barry University. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education grades 1-6 with endorsements in ESOL and Gifted Education. I also hold a Masters of Science in Educational Technology Applications.

I am currently serving as a fourth grade teacher and grade level chair at my school. I have been teaching fourth grade students since 2007 in the general, inclusion, and gifted instructional settings and it has been a most rewarding experience. I'm currently teaching gifted students which is an area I am most passionate about.

In my career as an educator I have been a Reading Coach (or Reading Specialist) for grades 3-5, a Teacher of the Gifted, I've taught students in grades K-6, and have had the honor and privilege of being voted as Teacher of the Year during two different occasions.

On a personal note, I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico and lived there until my family decided to move to Miami when I was 10 years old. I'm a lover of the arts. I'm a musician at heart and soul as well as an artist. Let's not forget that I'm also a HUGE fan and lover of books! Teaching is my passion and I hope to continue using that passion to ignite the love of learning in others.
